Adventures in Caribbean Customs

Good afternoon!

I'd like to share my very first attempts at custom modelmaking. Not everything went entirely as I'd hoped, but I'm certainly pleased enough with the finished product. All decals were designed, printed, and applied by me.

These aircraft were made specifically for my upcoming airport, so stay tuned for more when the airport thread goes live.

LIAT ATR-72-600 "THE Caribbean Airline" V2-LIC
Base: JC Wings Iran Air
Customs - 1 of 2

Pictured is what is decidedly this model's "good side." The decal paper that I used came with some challenges, the first being that the ink bled off a bit while it was being soaked, which is very apparent on the tail on the other side. The other issue was that I had a hard time color matching the areas that I wanted to paint and the final product looked very different than it did while in progress. Not perfect work, but I love this airline and livery so it will find a good home in my diorama. I have an ATR-42 lying around to make another LIAT when I have the time.

Seaborne Airlines Saab 340 N343CJ and N334CJ
Base: 3D Printed models from Shapeways
Customs - 2 of 2
As is evident in the photo, N343 turned out a bit better than N334, but these will make good background pieces in a diorama. The rough texture of the 3D printed plastic isn't nearly as bad as my macro lens makes it look. A combination of weak adhesive on the decal paper and the aforementioned rough texture made applying decals incredibly difficult. Making my own decals, however, made the process much less stressful than using ones ordered online as I was able to print countless spares.

I hope you like them! This was a pretty enjoyable experience and I think I'll start making more.
